Not only Colle delle Finestre will be concerned. You will climb a lot during the Granfondo La Marmotte Sestriere next July 24 and, whether you choose the middle route (117.7 km with 3200 vertical meters) or the long one (93 km with 2400 meters of altitude), you will face the rise to Colle of Sestriere from the village of Pragelato. An ascent made even more famous by the last year of Fabio Aru, who precisely on these roads, flew to his second stage win in the Giro d’Italia within 24 hours.
Immediately after you ride the 18.5 km that leads to the summit of the Colle delle Finestre (2176 meters), fighting against the dirt road, awaits the beautiful descent to Pourrieres and from there the road will again soar. The first 6 km leading to Pragelato will be actually on a slight slope (average gradient of 1.9%), then at that point will begin the canonical climb (9.2 km at 5.4%) with the ascent that will slightly tougher over the next 4 km (4.7% average gradient) until you get to a point of 9% when there are little more than 5 km to the finish line.
It won’t be a prohibitive climb, but we assure you that, with the efforts of the Colle delle Finestre in the legs, the last kilometers that will take you to the finish line (if you choose the Mediofondo) or first step to Sestriere (if you choose the Granfondo) will be felt all right: not underestimate it!
