Sestriere: sport everytime!

Just say Sestriere and sport is the first word that comes in your thoughts. Your mind immediately flies Olympics of 2006 when all the best athletes of the planet came here to fight for medals in Alpine skiing, a discipline that hit again the territory in winter. On December 10 and 11, indeed, the slopes of the “Milky Way” will host a giant and a slalom of the Female’s World Cup.

Despite the winter vocation, however, very much Sestriere offers a lot also on the sport side even in its summer version. Besides being home for the reatreats of many sports team from different disciplines, like football or swimming, the Piedmontese town gives the opportunity to venture even in alpine hiking, horseback, walks or golf tournaments on the 18-hole golf course (one of the highest green in Europe, with his 2000 meters above sea level).

And then, of course, there are the two wheels. Many trails for mountain biking or downhill (for example the one that swoops down from 2,700 meters above sea level of Mount Fraiteve to the 2,035 meters in Sestriere), then a huge offer for people that loves road bikes. It’s not a coincidence that, in recent years, two of the best Pro Tour teams such as Astana and Team Sky chose Sestriere as a place to retreat to prepare for the most important events of their season. Routes fascinating as that of the Granfondo La Marmotte – Sestriere – Colle delle Finestre, that is waiting for you, amateurs, in two weeks. Have you already marked in red the date of July 24 on your calendar? We hope so: see you there!
